Introduction
HRD Fine Art is pleased to announce an open-call, non-juried charity exhibition titled "BYOW: Bring Your Own Watermelon," on display from September 6th through October 5th, 2024 (*Viewing extended through Sunday, October 6th, 11:00am - 7:00pm). This is the first ever open-call exhibition to be held at the gallery, and it aims to support and contribute to the humanitarian aid in Gaza, Palestine.
As the title suggests, this exhibition is themed around watermelon as well as the four colors to represent the fruit, namely green, red, white, and black. It is a non-juried exhibition, therefore anyone can apply and exhibit their art, regardless of genre, material, or format.
Presently, in the Gaza district of Palestine, many lives are being lost due to the ruthless attack of Israeli military forces, including those of infants and newborn babies. Just like what happened to the Jews in Europe some 80 years ago, the current atrocious incident in Gaza is condemned by many people as genocide.
The four colors of watermelon„Ÿgreen, red, white, black„Ÿare also the colors used in the national flag of Palestine, and the fruit now has become a symbol of peace, protest, and solidarity. Taking place in Japan, who caused disastrous destructions and commit horrendous crimes during the first half of the 20th century, this exhibition "BYOW" aims to bring forward the message of peace for the people in Gaza, in the Middle East, and in the whole world. |
